Remove Signs of Aging Around The Eyes With A Blepharoplasty

Eyelid Surgery | Eye Lift Surgery | Eye Bag Removal

Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery used to remove excess skin and puffiness from the upper and lower eyelids – correcting drooping, providing an eyelid lift or tightening excess skin folds below the eyes. The result, a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes. If you suffer from hooded eyelids (when the upper eyelid folds over the eye), want to remove excess fat and skin around the eyes or reduce age-associated puffiness around the eyes such as eye bags, cosmetic eye rejuvenation surgery can be a viable option.

Candidates for Cosmetic Eye Surgery may have:

  • Excess skin concealing the natural crease of the upper eyelids
  • Eye Bags and/or Dark Circles under the eye
  • Loose skin hanging from the upper eyelids, which impairs vision
  • Excess skin and wrinkling of the lower eyelids
  • Upper eyelids appear swollen, which make the eyes look tired
  • Floppiness of the lower eyelid
  • Loose skin hanging from the upper eyelids, which impairs vision

Types of Blespharoplasty Surgery

Upper Blepharoplasty Upper eyelid surgery can be used to correct asymmetry if one eyelid is heavier or droopier than the other. An upper lid blepharoplasty is an operation that removes loose folds of skin from the upper eyelids. Or it can be used on both eyelids to subtly open up the eyes and make you look no different, but simply less sleepy.

It is a relatively short procedure that can take as little as 30 minutes. Usually performed under local anesthetic, an upper blepharoplasty requires minimal downtime and has lessened risks making it one of the safest and most speedy invasive procedures available. Patients can return home after their procedure with a huge difference to their eyes and face.

Lower Blepharoplasty

More complex than the upper blepharoplasty,  but still relatively quick, the lower blepharoplasty for the lower lids often require general anesthetic and take between 1-2 hours to perform.  Lower eyelid surgery can be used to remove eye bags in the under eye area, again making you look fresher and less tired. Scars are well concealed in the natural folds of the skin, so nobody should ever know you have had surgery.

Eye Bag Removal

Can be done as part of a lower or combined blepharoplasty, helping to reduce puffiness, without causing a "hollowed out look".

Upper and Lower/ Combined Blepharoplasty

For those with more severe problems, a combination of both upper and lower can take place to restore a youthful and refreshed appearance, but the look you want and the best method to achieve it will always be discussed fully at the complimentary consultation at MODLX Cutting Edge Aesthetics.

Considering Blepharoplasty surgery?

If you look in the mirror and think that your face looks tired, there’s a good chance that it’s the area around your eyes that’s making you feel that way.  Excess skin in the upper eyelids can give your eyes a hooded, droopy appearance that makes you look permanently sleepy. And having excess skin in your lower eyelids can make your eyes look puffy and less “open”, which also gives the eyes a tired look. This phenomenon can be caused by the aging process, but it is not always the case. Some people are simply genetically predisposed to having more skin and tissue in one or both eyelids.

How long is the surgery?

Blepharoplasty surgery typically takes between 1-2 hours to complete. If the operation is performed on just the upper or lower eyelids, less time is needed. An overnight stay is often required to minimize post-operative swelling and bruising.

How will I look after surgery?

After blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), your eyelids will look fresher and more youthful. Puffiness and skin wrinkling on your upper and lower eyelids should be reduced. Your eyes will appear more open and many people feel more confident about their appearance, as they feel they look younger and less tired.

After surgery and beyond…

Most side effects from this type of surgery are temporary. It is normal to have blurred vision, which may last up to 2-3 days. Bruising and swelling around the eyes may also occur. Some patients have experienced dryness and itchiness to the eyes after eyelid surgery: this symptom may last for approximately one week. After having blepharoplasty surgery, you can expect to resume normal activities within 7-10 days after surgery. The scars will initially be reddish-pink in color, before fading to silvery white in time.  Expect some swelling too, which can take a while before it settles completely to give you your final result.

The next step

We always encourage people to do as much research as they can when considering cosmetic surgery. Regardless of whether you are having an upper, lower, or combined blepharoplasty, Dr. Elan Singer always uses extreme precision along the natural folds of your eyes to prevent scarring and ensure a recovery that is as quick as possible. The result; a naturally rejuvenated and refreshed face with excess skin and fat from around the eyes removed.
