IPL Intense Pulse Light & The Photofacial - MODLX Medspa Manhattan NYC

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) - For Skin Tone and Texture

The appearance of brown spots, fine lines and wrinkles, thread veins and age pigmentation spots can make you look older than you actually are. Intense pulsed light treatment can soften and reduce the appearance of a number of very specific skin problems. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments use pulses of high-intensity visible light to treat various skin problems, such as acne, pigmentation (sun spots), rosacea, birthmarks, vascular lesions, rosacea and other skin imperfections. IPL is not a laser treatment. Instead, IPL treatment uses intense pulsed light to destroy brown pigment in the skin surface from sun exposure and shrink down broken and dilated capillaries. The light is absorbed by the pigment(color) in the sunspots and the blood in the visible vessels and converted to heat. The heat destroys the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels. A series of treatments is needed and leads to improvement in skin texture, tone and fine lines from collagen stimulation. Prior to any treatment of Intense Pulse Light, one of our aesthetic experts will complete a thorough analysis of your skin type and condition to be treated. this is recommended to determine the number of treatments that may be required. Although most patients experience excellent results with Intense Pulse Light Therapy, it is a rare possibility that the treatment may not be effective due to certain complications, including but not limited to hormonal imbalances, sun exposure, and skin resistance.

How Do IPL Treatments Differ From Lasers

Intense Pulse Light differs from Laser in that the pulsed light system uses a much larger treatment window. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result. Many patients state that Intense Pulse light is less painful and more comfortable than most Lasers. IPL Treatment is based on the principle of Selective Photothermolysis by which concentrated pulses of light target specific chromophores in the skin (i.e. light sensitive cells such as melanin and oxyhemoglobin). The absorption of light by the specific targeted chromophore induces a physiological or chemical change in the cell formation, ultimately achieving the desired clinical effect.
